Workout Details
Exhale: Core Fusion Yoga - Energy Flow, released August 24, 2010 by Acacia, is the first yoga workout from the Core Fusion DVD series. The workout is led by husband and wife team, and Core Fusion creators, bringing their popular spa classes to the masses with this DVD. The workout is broken up into five sections: Energy Flow, Sun Salutations 1, Sun Salutations 2, Chi Gong & Hip Opener Stretches and Core & Gluteal. These can be played individually or you can choose to play the full 50 minute workout for an intense total body workout. The workout also includes three bonus segments: Savasana & Stretches, an excerpt from Exhale: Lean and Toned and an excerpt from Weight Loss: Cardio Sculpt.
Review
The first segment, Energy Flow, contains a sequence of postures that includes downward dog, cat and cow and runner’s lunge. It then transitions into a forearm/side plank combo into child pose before returning to standing for some side stretches. Next up are the Sun Salutation 1 & 2. It is in these two sections that things start to heat up and the heart rate gets going. The first Sun Salutation section is led by Fred while the second one is led by Elizabeth. These two sections are filled with Warrior Lunges, Planks, Push-Ups, Chair Pose, Standing Pigeon, Half Moon, Triangle and Side Angle. Some of the poses are held and pulsed for an additional challenge. Elizabeth continues to lead the next section, Chi Gong & Hip Opener Stretches, which includes lower body toning with wide squat variations combined with flowing arm movement and concludes with stretches such as seated spinal twist. The last section is led by Fred, Core & Gluteal, and requires yoga blocks for the initial core work sequence. Then the focus shifts to the gluteals with bird/dog sequences and finishes up with core work.
I thoroughly enjoyed this workout. Done in its entirety, the workout flowed together nicely from beginning to end. It is an extremely versatile workout that can be used in a combination of ways. Many of the sections lend themselves nicely to add-ons after a cardiovascular workout or strength workout. I look forward to reaching for this workout again.
