Fit in 5: Total Body Tone, released September 7, 2010 by Acacia, is a compilation DVD of popular workouts from Acacia’s earlier releases. Fit in 5: Total Body Tone includes routines for Strength, Yoga, Pilates, Core and Cardio. The DVD includes 20 minute workouts from Daily Energy – Vinyasa Yoga Flow, Weight Loss Cardio Kick, Exhale Core Fusion Body Sculpt and Pilates Plus, Pilates for Beginners and 3-in-1 Total Body Fitness. This is Acacia’s second Fit in 5 release; Acacia released Fit in 5: Ultimate Body Blitz in March of 2010.
The strength workout is from 3-in-1 Total Body Fitness led by Desi Bartlett. After a brief warm-up, she takes us through a thorough strength workout with a set of light to medium weights. She begins with lunges, squats, reverse lunges and plie squats. She then does an upper body sequence consisting of bicep curls, shoulder press, overhead triceps, upright rows and lateral raises. In the next set, she combines the upper body and lower body moves (i.e. bicep curls with lunges, squats with shoulder press). This is followed by strength moves focusing on one side of the body then the other, adding a balance challenge, followed by standing core work (torso twists and side bends). The last two sections are repeated before a very brief stretch which consisted only of spinal rolls.
The yoga workout is led by Shiva Rea and is from the workout Daily Energy – Vinyasa Yoga Flow which consists of seven 20-minute daily yoga workouts. This is my first experience with Shiva Rea and, although the workout was led with a voice over, I found her demeanor to be calming and soothing. I am looking forward to trying other yoga workouts led by Shiva Rea.
The cardio workout is from Violet Zaki’s Weight Loss Cardio Kick. The workout used in Fit in 5: Total Body Tone is the Drills and Combos section from the originally released workout. This workout begins with punching combinations using basic punches: jabs, crosses, hooks and upper cuts. Once the punching combinations are done on both sides, she introduces leg drill combinations featuring front kicks, back kicks roundhouse kicks with boxer shuffles and jacks to keep it moving. After, the combinations go on to include both punching and kicking combinations.
The Pilates for Beginners workout is led by Kristen McGee. This is a great workout to help develop core strength. It is ideal for beginners as Kristen is very thorough and explains and demonstrates each move. It is also a good workout for an intermediate or advanced exerciser because she delivers great form pointers which serve to remind the exerciser to engage the core and concentrate on the move.
The core section of the workout is from Exhale Core Fusion Body Sculpt and Pilates Plus. The workout is led by Fred DeVito and Elisabeth Halfpapp, with Fred doing the voiceover. In Fit in 5: Total Body Tone, the workout pulls from the Abdominal Sculpt (Exhale Core Fusion Body Sculpt) and Pure Core (Exhale Core Fusion Pilates Plus) sections of the original workouts.
The Fit in 5: Total Body Tone is an extremely versatile compilation disc. You can do one workout a day when you are pressed for time or combine two or more workouts for a longer more complete workout. My favorite workout combination is the cardio workout followed by the strength workout. I like to finish it off with either the pilates or ab workout to zero in on the core. I also like to tack on the yoga workout after the strength or cardio workout.
