Keeping Fit: Strength Cardio Pilates Workout Review
I recently received this three DVD set to review and I have to say that I absolutely love it! Though the set is targeted to those 40 and up, don’t let that stop you, it really is a great program for anyone. It is extremely versatile and is adaptable to all fitness levels and all age groups. Andrea Metcalf is an enthusiastic, motivating instructor, who cues well and shows superb form throughout the workouts.
Keeping Fit Strength The strength workout is a total body workout that clocks in at about 50 minutes. To make the workout ultra-efficient, Andrea combines upper and lower body exercises to keep the heart rate up and your muscles challenged. This workout includes ten 5-minute segments: Warm-up, Squat Challenge, Lined-up Lunges, Sexy Shoulders, Ballet Bottom Blast, Safe Shoulder Connection, Plank Power Core, Better Booty Bridge, Cross Slim Core and Cool Down. Some of the exercises include: Squats combined with biceps curls and overhead press, curtsy lunges with side lateral raises and one-arm rows, plie squats with shoulder circles and plank work with one-arm rows.
Keeping Fit Cardio The cardio workout also clocks in at about 50 minutes with its ten 5-minute segments: Warm-up, Two-Step Chug, Sumo Squat Attack, Boxing Basics, Dig it Skate, Pony Old School, Box Ring Power, Hollywood Dance, Box Beat Stomp and Cool Down. This workout contains a great mix of low-impact, kickboxing and dance moves. And the music in this workout is great too with a mix of vocals and non-vocals. This workout can easily be modified to challenge all fitness levels.
Keeping Fit Pilates The third workout in this series utilizes classic Pilates exercises to build muscle tone, improve balance and alignment and challenge your core. The ten 5-minute segments include: Standing Posture Perfect, Plie Power Core, Side Thigh Connection, Belly Roll Out, Flat Belly Blast, Booty Boost, No Crabbin’ Core, Lengthen Split Circles, Super back and Posture Relief Cool Down. Andrea utilizes a resistance band in the workout but notes that a towel can be used as a substitute.
Keeping Fit: Strength, Cardio, Pilates is a well-rounded, extremely versatile workout DVD set. Whether you are in the mood for cardio, strength or Pilates these workouts have it all; whether you want to exercise for ten, twenty or fifty minutes, the choice is yours. These workouts are nicely chaptered and easily customizable. And if that wasn’t enough each of the DVDs contains a bonus section with two segments from other Acacia workouts. The program is currently available as a boxed 3-DVD set ($34.99) but will be available to purchase separately for $16.99 each.
