The Yogini Workout by Ellen Barrett is a 45 minute fusion workout that is designed to burn fat, firm up the body and de-stress the mind. Ellen is joined by two background exercisers in the workout. One of the background exercisers shows beginner modifications. No equipment is needed for the workout but a yoga mat is helpful as the workout is done barefoot.
The Yogini Workout uses a mixture of yoga and core focused calisthenics to target the problem areas of the abs, hips and thighs. Despite the name, The Yogini Workout is not a traditional yoga workout but only has a few yoga poses sprinkled in that seamlessly flow and evolve into muscle toning and pulsing exercises. The workout is divided into Side Angle Crunch, Warrior 1 Series, Swan Dive Stretch, Chair Squat Series and Seated Stretches.
Ellen begins the workout with a brief warm-up that includes breathing plies and side stretches. From here, the workout transitions to warrior lunges with side angle crunches returning back to the breathing plies before repeating the series on the other side. The Warrior Series consists of classic yoga warrior poses intensified with pulsing movement to challenge the muscles. The Swan Dive Stretch begins with a series of stretches and transitions into a mini vinyasa routine complete with chaturangas, upward and downward dogs. The Chair Pose segment again includes a classic yoga pose that is intensified by adding pulses to the pose. This section also includes a bow and side plank series. The workout concludes with seated stretches to elongate and extend the muscles after the workout.
The Yogini Workout is a great workout that has it all. It will get your heart rate up slightly, engage your entire body with the yoga poses and strength moves, and enhance your flexibility with the stretches. It will also leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed after the workout. Ellen Barrett is an excellent fitness instructor. Her cues are very clear and easy to follow throughout the workout. She has a pleasant disposition and is calm and encouraging. If you want the benefits of cardio, strength training and flexibility all in one workout, then the Yogini Workout is for you and is an excellent addition to the Top Trainers system.
