Workout Details and Review
In the Fall of 2010, ExerciseTV, New Balance and fitness trainer Holly Perkins teamed up to create Fitness 360, a total body program that combines cardio, strength and yoga. With a total running time of fifty minutes, Fitness 360 is divided into three full length stand-alone workouts that include a brief warm-up, cool-down and stretch. From the main menu, you can select any of the individual workouts, Cardio 360, Total Tone 360 or Yoga Energizer 360, or choose to Play All for a complete total body strength, cardio and flexibility workout. For the workout you will need a set of dumbbells and an exercise mat.
Cardio 360, the first workout included in the Fitness 360 program, is a twenty minute circuit workout that alternates cardio intervals with resistance training. The workout begins with a brief warm-up before alternating cardio intervals of jumping rope, jumping jacks and plyometric split jumps with targeted resistance exercises for the upper body, lower body and abdominals.
Total Tone 360 focuses on the strength component of the Fitness 360 program. In this twenty minute workout, Holly takes you through targeted resistance exercises while still adding in short cardio bursts to keep the heart rate elevated. Again, the workout begins with a brief warm-up to get the body prepared for the workout. The first half of the workout is the lower body segment. The first time through the lower body routine, Holly demonstrates the exercises unweighted using bodyweight only and adds the weights the second time through to allow the exerciser to master technique. The second half of the workout targets all the major muscle groups of the upper body and ends with and abdominal routine.
Yoga Energizer 360 is the final workout in the Fitness 360 program. This is a ten minute workout that can be used separately or tacked on to either of the above workouts for an additional stretch. This is a great workout to boost energy, stretch and recover and round out the exercise program.
The Fitness 360 program comes complete with a fitness and nutrition plan available on the ExerciseTV website. The Fitness 360 workouts are available for purchase as downloads or on DVD. Fitness 360 is a thorough total body program that includes all the components of a well-rounded fitness program. The Fitness 360 program is also very versatile. It can be used in conjunction with the fitness plan which schedules the workouts for you. Or you can mix and match the segments to create a customizable workout based on your time available to exercise. You can also do each workout individually since each one is its own complete workout with a brief warm-up and cool-down. The workout is adaptable to all fitness levels – it is well-rounded enough to be used by a beginner, while still offering a challenge to a more seasoned exerciser by increasing resistance or adding more intensity to the cardio intervals. Holly Perkins is a great lead. She is very upbeat and pleasant, gives form pointers, offers encouragement and thoroughly explains the benefits, effectiveness and target of each exercise.
