The Firm: Calorie Explosion Workout Details and Review
The Firm: Calorie Explosion, released in September of 2010, is an intense cardiovascular workout. Led by Firm Master Instructor Alison Davis, The Firm: Calorie Explosion consists of four twelve-minute calorie crushing workouts. Alison is joined by two background exercisers, fellow Master Instructors Emily and Rebekah. Emily shows the beginner modifications for the workout. In addition to the four workouts, The Firm: Calorie Explosion also includes a three minute warm-up and a four minute cool-down/stretch which are conveniently tacked on to each of the individual workouts. From the main menu, you have the option to play the entire workout, select one of the four individual workouts or create a custom workout. For the workout you will need a light to medium set of dumbbells.
Kick-Butt Athletic Drills – this workout, as the title suggests, is all about athletic drills. Here you will find sprints, football runs and basketball tosses. With moderate to high impact moves, and light weights added to many of the moves, you will get your heart rate up and burn calories.
Explosive Power Moves – Alison kicks up the intensity a notch in this workout by adding intensity and impact to the exercises. This workout is all about plyometrics, tuck jumps and power lunges, and power moves, swings and snatches, to send the heart rate sky high.
Cardio Kickboxing – In this workout Alison takes you through a challenging kickboxing routine. Beginning with upper body punching combinations, Alison builds a routine on one-side before repeating it on the other side. Then it is time to move on to the lower body with two different kicking combinations, again taught on one side, then the other. No equipment is required for this workout.
High-Intensity Moves – It’s time to kick the intensity up a notch in this routine. In this workout, Alison teaches progressively challenging intervals. Starting with a basic move concentrating on form, the intervals are done three times with the second time focusing on speed, increasing the number of repetitions, and the third time adding power to the move. The intervals are separated with a brief active rest.
The Firm: Calorie Explosion is an excellent, high-intensity, aerobic workout. It is enjoyable, easy-to-follow yet challenging. The choreography in each of the routines is simple basic choreography, eliminating a learning curve, yet the moves are effective at elevating the heart rate. The workout is extremely versatile and contains an assortment of routines so you are never bored. The workouts can be mix and matched, done individually or all at once providing endless variety. Alison does an excellent job leading each of the workouts. She cues well, offers motivation and form pointers throughout the workout.
